An early 20th century mason's bronze emblem that's cast into the concrete of a typical sidewalk. This was a common practice during an era when contractors took great pride in their craftsmanship, even for a simple concrete sidewalk. This particular maker dates to 1925. As a sign of his skill, the concrete is still in good shape today. Also, the exposed aggregate surface giving greater definition was a common construction technique of an earlier time. Today, the common concrete sidewalk is a bland and smooth surface.
