Mount Auburn Cemetery Strawberry Landscape
At Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge Ma. is a museum of plants, with a name tag hanging from most specimens. This makes it a great place to learn about ornamental plant and their scientific & common names. Amidst the collection are numerous rare or unfamiliar species, such as the ornamental strawberry plant in this image. While it has many of the characteristics of the kitchen garden variety, it lacks the best part, the fruit. However, it offers a showy white flower and vigorously lush foliage. For me, photographing plants is a lot like portraiture with regards to capturing the essence of the specimen. This densely planted slope portrays a blanket-like cover for stabilizing the soil from erosion while articulating the shape of the landform.
